New Therapies Against Arthritis and Rheumatism

In the therapy of illnesses of the movement apparatus there are new developments, which could change the treatments strongly and improve the treatment results. However these therapies require still further research.

With the treatment of arthritis increasingly the Orthokine therapy is established. Orthokine contains inflammatory cytosine and growth factors. A clinical study at 400 patients with knee osteoarthritis shows the effectiveness and security of the body-own immune proteins. Due to the favorable side effect profile the Orthokine therapy is an efficient alternative to steroids, hyaluronic acid and pain medicines.
The gene therapy with Rheumatoid Arthritis is to be feasible and safe. The long-term results of a gene therapy study showed this with nine women. A condition of a broad clinical application is however the employment of new technologies.
Also in the cartilage regeneration from non-embryonic main cells, the researchers progress announce. First clinical results with ten patients show the feasibility and security of the method. A goal has it to replace the consuming autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) with this new method.
Professor Paul Robbins, presented a new beginning for the treatment of the Rheumatoid Arthritis with ‘Exosomes’ so called. Exosomes are highly effective anti-inflammatory nano-particles. First clinical results with 66 patients show that the method works.
