Women: Obesity in Youth Affects Fertility
October 22nd 2009 -
Surplus Kilos impair well-known measures the female fertility. In addition, the age, in which a woman becomes obese, plays a role, as a researcher team discovered around Gabriella G. Gosman of the University of Pittsburgh now. If the fat craze (adiposity) already arises in the youth, leads this more frequently to problems with child wars, than an excessive weight gain only at the adult age. The current research work, in which several universities were involved, is published in the specialist journal “Fertility & Sterility” (DOI: 10.1016/j.fertnstert.2009.08.028).

The study is based on the data of 1.538 women in the average age of scarcely 45 years, which had undergone all of an operation against their obesity. By means of questionnaires the scientists collected different information, approximately to possible fertility disturbances and pregnancies in the past. They inquired also, the women at the age of 18, 25 and 30 years had which body weight and whether they suffered from so-called Polycystic Ovary syndrome (PCO syndrome). In this hormonal disorder are numerous, tiny sacs (cysts) in the ovaries, which do not ripen however, is but prematurely diminishes. The PCO syndrome limits from there the fertility of the concerning.
As shown by the data analysis, which took effect on PCO syndrome in the study, most often in women who were obese at 18 years. They suffered more often from infertility than women who were excessively fat as adults. “Studies like this are extremely helpful when it comes to advising obese women and to meet their needs,” said William Gibbons of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) issued a press release of the professional society.
