Cardiac Infarct: Women and Men Show Nevertheless Similar Symptoms

The signs for a cardiac infarct differ with men and women less than so far assumed. At this conclusion Canadian scientists came in a study of the Canadian of institutes OF Health Research (CIHS). Differently than so far accepted therefore also women suffer with a cardiac infarct under a tightness feeling in the chest as well as pain in the left shoulder and in the left arm. Women communicated their complaints to the physician however differently than men, which had led Martha Mackey and their colleagues to the view that the symptoms are sex specific, assumes.
The scientists examined 305 heart patients, with whom a Angioplasty was accomplished. In this measure narrowed or clogged blood vessels extended. Similar symptoms arise as with a cardiac infarct. Patients of both sexes complained about the same complaints as breast pain, pain in the left arm, breathlessness as well as sweats and nausea. Women suffered however more frequently from neck, neck and jaw pain than men.
So far the medical profession assumed that with women of fewer symptoms to a cardiac infarct point than with men. In opinion of the scientists this does not apply, but women and men communicate simply only differently with their members and physicians. Since a cardiac infarct must be diagnosed within short time, physicians place frequently closed questions, to which the patient must answer only with “yes” or “no”. Men answer these questions directly. Women however call frequently additional complaints – particularly they usually simply do not go out a cardiac infarct to have suffered and therefore try to find other causes for their suffering.
Now particularly the probability emerges to die at the infarct with women by 16 percent is higher than with men as fatal erring faith. The researchers demand from there that physicians should their female patients better clear up and purposefully also about other complaints inquire, in order to facilitate the diagnosis.
