The researchers evaluated from statements of 3092 Americans 15-98 years. Participants over 65 years looked three times as much away as younger adults. At the same time they gave to rare to enjoy television or reduce stress that can – in contrast to younger respondents. Previous studies have suggest, the researchers found that seniors also use the TV program to control negative emotions. The current data, however, were speaking a different language.

“The study underlines that alternatives are needed to television as an entertainment medium – especially in older adults,” says Depp. TV consumption is consistent with various health risks associated, for example, obesity, dementia, type 2 diabetes.
