If one is suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency, it means that such a person has insufficient quantity of the B12 vitamin in his body. Vitamin B12 is needed in a human body to be able to produce red blood cells, the cell that has the responsibility of transporting oxygen throughout the body. The insufficiency of this vitamin simply means that there will not be enough red blood cells in the body, a lack of oxygen in the body might result. This state can lead to one been tired and weak.

In most cases, B12 deficiency is treated with supplements of vitamins B12 to return the level of the vitamin B12 in the body to normal. Once the level is returned to normal, more blood cells will be produced by the body and the body’s functioning will be back to normal. This is a case of short period treatment, there are some cases that might become permanent and a continued usage of the supplement might be necessary over a long period of time which in some cases might be for the rest of the person’s life so as to prevent a reoccurrence of the symptoms. There might be a reoccurrence of the symptoms because if the supplements are stopped, the normal poor absorption of vitamin B12 that results in the deficiency might still be persistent.

The treatment with supplements will be as prescribed by the physician and the victim might have a feeling of relieve within few days of taking the supplement. In cases where the vitamin B12 deficiency is caused by an infection in the bowels, the physician consulted might employ antibiotics to carry out the treatment of the deficiency. In severe cases where an anemia has occurred there might be a need for a blood transfusion. Nasal spray can also be used to treat vitamin B12 deficiency. Nascobal is an example of the spray that can be used for the treatment and the use of nasal spray is not a quick choice that is made, this might be because of the high cost when compared with supplements.

Another treatment cause that has proved effective in the treatment of vitamin B12 is employing a specific kind of diet to carry out the treatment. Food items like cheese, milk, meat, and eggs when include in the diet of a victim of a deficiency of vitamin B12, might enhance an improvement and correction of the deficiency state. Folic acid is one of the types of vitamin nutrients, a higher consumption of food containing it can help to correct the deficient state. Foods like citrus fruits, leafy green vegetables, and fortified cereals are the sources from which folic acid can be obtained. A further help can be obtained when iron supplements are included in the course so that any type of iron deficiency that might be present can also be addressed together.

Some other places to get help to overcome this deficiency are offices of dietary supplements, and heart and lung institute which can be found in your neighborhood..

Radioactive contaminated water, contaminated vegetables, contaminated milk: After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in Japan is the fear from contaminated food. Could also in fish and other marine animals, the radioactive particles accumulate, experts fear.

The World Health Organization expressed concern: it appears that more radioactivity in food in Japan than expected. Are most likely also contaminated products from the contaminated area around Fukushima been released, the WHO spokesman Peter Cordingley, warned in Geneva. The sale of milk, spinach and other vegetables from Fukushima and neighboring regions has now been banned. People in Japan should be cautious in the selection of food.

The Japanese government has asked the people of the region also drink tap water anymore. In the village Iitate, located within the 30-kilometer zone around the stricken reactor, were greatly elevated levels of radioactive iodine measured in drinking water, the Kyodo news agency reported, citing the Health Ministry. Even in the 200 kilometers from Tokyo are still traces of iodine in tap water.

So far the wind has blown most of the radioactive particles across the sea. But that danger is not over: “The nuclides which are blown away from the mainland to cut at some point on the surface of the water to be ingested by fish and other marine animals,” the radiation biologist Edmund Lengfelder warns in an interview with the Frankfurter Rundschau. Through the food chain they came back to the people. For a nation who eat a lot of fish, which was fatal. “No more sushi, one might say,” said the expert. At least not without first having to measure the radiation exposure.

Coffee against stroke, women who drink more than a cup of coffee a day reduce the risk of stroke by 22 to 25 percent. The report Swedish researchers at the Karolinska Institute in the current online issue of the journal Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.

For the study, the scientists analyzed data from a total of 34.670 women aged 49-83 years. The subjects were participants of the “Swedish Mammography Cohort”, a long-term epidemiological study that examined the relationship between diet, lifestyle and disease development. None of the study participants had at the beginning of the average 10.4-year study period, a cardiovascular disease or cancer. The researchers documented in the following years a total of 1.680 strokes.

After calibration of the data with other risk factors, the probability of a stroke in the coffee-consumers significantly lower. This benefited women who drank one to two cups a day not more than those who are more than five cups approved. Only less than one cup a day increased the risk for a stroke. Possibly contained the regular coffee consumption undiscovered an inflammation, reduce oxidative stress and improves insulin sensitivity.

“Some women have avoided coffee because they were unhealthy for him. In fact, there is evidence that moderate coffee consumption, the risk for certain diseases such as diabetes, liver cancer and potentially can also reduce stroke,” says study director Susanna Larsson.

But warns you to drink more coffee because of those results. Further studies must in fact yet to confirm whether there is indeed a link between coffee consumption and stroke.

How easily a man falls for a drug depends on its genetic map. But not only the risk for alcoholism and other drug addictions are related, even an increased appetite seems to be based on the same genetic roots.

The researchers analyzed data from two large studies on alcoholism from 1991 to 1992 and 2001 to 2002. A total of more than 80,000 people had taken part in the investigations. It was found that especially women with alcoholic relatives themselves were often obese. Thus the risk of these women become massively obese, by 50 percent. In men, the relationship was less clear.

“Someone who’s alcoholism of a relative who experienced guards, perhaps from alcohol. Instead, he developed a different form of addiction,” said Grucza. For food – particularly high-calorie foods and aromatic – stimulate the reward center in the brain in the same way as alcohol. This effect can be addictive.

A comparison of the ten years apart investigation also shows that the risk of obesity for people with a family alcohol problem in the later study was significantly increased. That means that part of the obesity risk was induced by the environment, says study leader Grucza. “The genes of people have not changed -. But the environment”

Much of what we eat today is calorie-rich than in the 1970s and 1980s, said the scientist. Moreover, the dishes are now more intense flavor, which stimulates the reward center in the brain in addition – and thus increase the risk of addiction.

Ironically, tended not alcoholics themselves to be overweight, reported Grucza. Although alcohol is high in calories, they are often more underweight because they neglected to drink on the food.

Basically, it is very much popular in countries like India, West Indies, Hawaii and many others where there are vast plantations of coconut are found. And the coconut water is available fresh either in bottle or as there in coconut.

Water is the main component of coconut water. Water constitutes more than 95.5 % of the coconut water. But apart from water, there are several other important things present in the coconut water. Nitrogen, phosphoric acid, potassium, calcium oxide, manganese oxide, iron, sugar and ash are present in the coconut water. Almost all things present in the coconut water are helpful to human body that is why coconut water is regarded as nutritional supplements. Because of presence of nutritional supplements coconut water is regarded as a healthy food or drink.

If you feel thirsty ever, then go for coconut water instead of any other drink like cola and others which don’t have any nutritional supplements and more than that those contain ingredients that can be harmful to one body. Go for coconut water and be sure that you don’t have to compromise on taste.

In the study, experts have evaluated by the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, the health records of more than 3,700 people. Those individuals with a high concentration of trans-palmitoleic acid in the blood have showed healthier levels of insulin, inflammatory markers and cholesterol. Furthermore, the researchers report in the journal “Annals of Internal Medicine”. In further studies is to clarify what mechanism is behind the now observed effect.

A fat and carbohydrate rich diet reduced life expectancy. Less dangerous is fat-rich food with high protein but low in carbohydrates.

A lifelong diet high in fat and a lot of carbohydrates can reduce the life expectancy by one third. In contrast reduced-fat diet with high protein, low carbohydrate content, but the life expectancy of only about seven percent. The study results show a team of scientists to Susanne Klaus, German Institute for Nutrition Research (DIFE), where feeding behavior was investigated in mice. Longest-living rodent, then, if their food high in carbohydrates, high in protein and low fat. In addition, the study shows that increased muscle activity can compensate for the negative effects of a high-fat diet.

The study examined one of the two groups of mice were genetically altered so that they spent on their muscles a lot of energy. The other group of mice corresponded to the unmodified wild type. From the eleventh week of life, the mice were up to their natural end of one of three diets that varied with regard to the macronutrient composition. Longest-lived animals when they received low-fat food. The shortest life expectancy – approximately 550 days – had the rodents, which rose rapidly in importance. The mice with increased muscle activity decreased with the same diet but also, somewhat less and much slower. They lived on average about 230 days longer.

The second high-fat food mixture with plenty of protein and little carbohydrates resulted in wild-type mice with similar effects, but nonetheless not as strong and quickly increased and with about 754 days, much longer lived. By contrast, the mice burned more energy in their muscles, not with this diet more and lived just as long as the low-fat food, that is approximately 850 days. “This shows that increased muscle activity can significantly help to offset the negative impact of a high-fat diet,” said Susan Keiper, the lead author of the study. “If you were to transfer the data to humans, so should people who eat very high fat, to pay sufficient exercise and avoid especially at a young age a strong weight gain,” adds Susanne Klaus.

Who has a lot of stress in his daily life should eat walnuts. The seeds help the body cope better to be with the load. As American scientists at Penn State University found a walnut-rich diet lowers blood pressure – both at rest and after a stressful event. The results of the study they published in the current issue of the journal “Journal of the American College of Nutrition”.

The researchers were 22 healthy adults are three times a six-week nutrition plan to follow: the first six weeks they were able to eat normally, the second pass was just under 37 grams of walnuts (equivalent to about 18 walnut halves) and a tablespoon of walnut oil per day duty and the third were additionally one and a half tablespoons of flaxseed oil. After the six weeks, study participants underwent two stress tests: for the first within five minutes they had to prepare a speech and hold diving for the second foot in ice-cold water. Meanwhile, the researchers measured the blood pressure of subjects. As they noted, was lower with the walnut diet than without. The additional intake of linseed oil had no effect on blood pressure values.

“This is the first study that shows that walnuts and walnut oil reduce blood pressure,” says Sheila G. West, who was involved in the conduct of the study. “We can not avoid all the stress of everyday life. But we can support with an appropriate diet our bodies cope with stress.”

Walnuts are rich in fiber, antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids such as alpha-linolenic acid. These components could be responsible for the positive effect as a blood pressure lowering agent.

“Babies need plenty of omega-3 fatty acids for their brain development,” explained study leader Susan Brewer of the University of Illinois. “If they must change from milk to solid food, most of them do not get sufficient quantities.” In addition, the children soon adjust their taste for life – what they did not know until the fifth year, it is difficult to accept in food repertoire.

One hurdle for the idea could be parents, which seems fishy content of baby food with suspicion. “I thought so initially, ‘yuck’ at the thought of baby food with fish,” says the researcher. Brewer still has its own recipe to a group of 107 parents tested. The subjects were given baby food with 27 percent of fish and those prefixed with the same amounts of meat content. “But in fact, the fish porridge would not smell fishy. Most of the subjects could not tell whether fish or meat stuck in the glass.”

Caffeine has an unexpected side effect: consumed in larger quantities, it increases the anxiety. Some people develop even after a cup of coffee anxiety symptoms. The reason for this is a variation in the genome. It has found a British-German research team.

In particular, the stimulating effect of caffeine the coffee owes its reputation as the most popular beverage. Some people make the black drink to create it quickly: you get after drinking a single cup racing heart, sweating, restlessness and difficulty falling asleep. Many of them also experience a vague fear. Especially patients suffering from an anxiety disorder, reduce the consumption of coffee or do without quite so. This also applies to other caffeinated beverages like black tea, cocoa or cola.

The research team led by Jürgen Deckert Studies of the University Hospital of Würzburg has now discovered that induce changes in the genetic material that some people react with fear to a mean dose of caffeine. “We could show that a variant in the gene of the adenosine A2A receptor plays an important role in this process”, said Deckert. Normally, the neurotransmitter adenosine docks in certain areas of the brain to the receptor and triggers a calming response. If the receptor gene but does not change, caffeine can suppress the adenosine and thus prevent its calming effect. After a coffee dose of 150 ml (1 cup) used their anxiety symptoms. However, this is only the case if the parties have the altered gene from both father and inherited from the mother. Earlier studies had already shown that the adenosine A2A receptor plays a role in the development of anxiety disorders.

In addition, the researchers observed that the gene effects decreased with increasing coffee consumption. “Probably can regress, by design, the intolerance, when the dose gradually increases”, said the physician.

For the further exploration of the relationship between caffeine and other indirectly acting on the adenosine A2A receptor substances Würzburg scientists still seek the voluntary participants. The subjects should be healthy and 18-65 years old.
